This unique Baroque program will feature the mellow woodiness of the flute, the tannic sweetness of the viola gamba and the bright effervescence of the lute highlighting masterpieces by Bach, Couperin, Marais, and more.
The Tempesta di Mare Chamber Players is made up of section principals from Philadelphia Baroque Orchestra Tempesta di Mare. The ensemble performs on "Baroque" instruments, originals and modern copies set up as they were in the 17th and 18th centuries, recreating the sounds that composers had in mind when the music was new. Tempesta di Mare is named for the concerto by Antonio Vivaldi which means "storm at sea", a name that reflects baroque composers' belief in the power of music to evoke drama, even without words.
